Shopping and Leisure Center Westside Attracts Shoppers with DynaScan High Brightness LCDs
Neue Brünnen AG recently completed a digital signage project, powered by DynaScan high brightness LCDs, in its Shopping and Leisure Center Westside in Berne, Switzerland, providing a new avenue for the center to deliver information, entertainment and advertisements to visitors. With its modern architecture that allows natural sunlight to enter the center through the ceiling, Westside required a professional display solution that would be visible throughout the day.
Neue Brünnen sought out Swiss market leader screenFOOD AG, a Lucerne-based digital signage system provider, to find the right solution that would be bright enough to be seen in the brightly lit environment and compliment the architecture of the center.
After determining the client’s needs and visiting the project site, screenFOOD concluded they needed a professional LCD-based solution that was daylight viewable, provided full high definition resolution, and was capable of 24/7 operation. Having worked with DynaScan on previous projects, screenFOOD had firsthand experience with the high brightness and color calibrated benefits that DynaScan screens offer, and determined that the DynaScan DS651LR4 3000 nit high brightness LCD would be an ideal solution for the project. screenFOOD turned to hardware integration partner and DynaScan dealer, Inputech AG to source the displays.
“In this project it was necessary to have reliable products with good partners behind. The displays are mounted in quite complicated places which would make on-site support very difficult. Therefore the reliability and experience with the screens were mandatory,” notes Thomas Amrein, screenFOOD Project Manager. “We considered a variety of different solutions but DynaScan was able to best meet the requirements we had in place. In such a complex project it is mandatory to have not only a good product but also have good integration partners and distributors.”
Thirteen of the 65” DS651LR4 3000 nit LCDs were installed in a portrait orientation throughout the shopping center at various heights and levels. Custom enclosures were built that correspond with the new corporate identity of the center. LED lighting was used around the frame to not only provide an elegant aesthetic, also act as a visual wayfinding mechanism by utilizing different colored lighting depending on the physical location of the display: purple for the cinema area, blue for the aquatic area, and green for shopping.
Special consideration was given to properly cool the screens while maintaining a sleek, low-profile look. screenFOOD developed a special cooling tunnel with slots at the bottom of the enclosure and outbound fans in the top in order to maintain the proper operating temperature.
The screens are used to display a variety of information, including mall information, promotional slots from shops, events within the center and entertaining content. screenFOOD’s digital signage platform provides a great deal of flexibility, allowing content to be individually configured for each screen location. Customers receive instant information about special offers and events while they are shopping to enhance their visit. Depending on the location of the screen, related entertainment, information or advertising content is presented on screen.
Customer feedback on Westside Center’s new digital signage has been positive. According to screenFOOD, the company has found that visitors are attracted to the screens and are impressed with the size and brightness of the displays.
